A History of the International Students Science Fair

The International Students Science Fair was initiated for the purpose of facilitating international exchange and interaction in science education, based on science project presentations delivered by high school students from all over the world.

【1st ISSF】 2005 in Thailand  / Hosted by Mahidol Wittayanusorn School

【2nd ISSF】 2006 in Korea   / Hosted by Korea Science Academy

【3rd ISSF】 2007 in India   / Hosted by City Montessori School

This year, the fourth ISSF is being hosted by Ritsumeikan High School in Japan. Ritsumeikan Senior High has been appointed a ‘Super Science High School’ by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology since 2002. Since then, we have promoted and explored an innovative science curriculum with emphasis on two concepts: 1) developing stronger educational ties to our affiliated university and 2) developing a global network in science education. Having held the past 5 annual Rits Super Science Fairs, we have expanded our international network. Due to those past experiences and expertise, the 4th ISSF in Japan has come to be regarded as part of the ‘Super Science High School’ project promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and thus is going to be held with the support of the ministry.

We sincerely hope that success of the 4th ISSF in 2008 will lead to stronger ties with other like-minded high school teachers and students and reinforce their friendship.

The 5th ISSF in 2009 is to be hosted by the National Junior College in Singapore.
